Sapphire is the non-red variety gemstone from the Corundum family, the second hardest natural mineral known to mankind after diamond.
Generally thought of as being blue, Sapphires are in fact available in a whole spectrum of colours including black, pink, yellow, green, orange-pink, purple and many shades in between, even
colourless.
The finest Sapphires were traditionally sourced from
Kashmir and Burma but equally fine material is now
being found in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Madagascar, even
Australia which is usually thought of as being only the
source for lower quality black Sapphire.
At R.M.Weare & Company we stock all grades from the
‘cheap and cheerful’ through to the finest quality
Burmese and Pailin (Cambodian) stones.
We include a wide stock of coloured material with
particularly fine examples of Madagascan pink Sapphire,
some examples of which you can find on our ‘Specials’ page.
We also carry stocks of star Sapphires, the beautiful cabochon
cut Sapphires that display a spectacular six rayed star effect across the surface of the stone when viewed under a single point light source. |
