R.M.Weare & Company Ltd. - Britains Premier Gemstone Source

Ruby is considered one of the ‘big four’ of the gemstones world, coming from the Corundum family, as does sapphire. It’s beautiful red colour is caused by traces of chromium within its composition and has a hardness second only to diamond at 9 on Moh’s scale. This hardness makes it particularly suitable for use in jewellery, especially rings where it is able to withstand most of the wear and tear of everyday use.

Ruby deposits are found in many localities around the world with the most celebrated being the Mogok deposits of Burma. Fine examples are also found in Thailand with parts of Africa producing excellent examples too in recent times.

Here at Weare’s we stock all varieties to cover every requirement from the run of the mill jobbing stone used in repair work to the finest examples in ‘pigeon blood’ red for special commission pieces. We carefully select every stone
we stock regardless of its value to ensure we take only the best of each particular grade.

We also stock wonderful star rubies. These exceptionally rare, rutile rich stones display a fantastic 6 rayed star when illuminated by a single point light source. Whatever your requirement, don’t hesitate to contact us for service and stock second to none.
